1 Day Bisoke hiking tour
Overview
Mount Bisoke is part of five volcanoes that form the Virunga massif and straddles between Rwanda and Congo. Mount Bisoke is a dormant volcanic mountain standing at 3711 meters high above sea level with a crater lake at the top. The hike to the top takes 6 hours including 2 hours descending down to the starting point. Experienced hikers can get to the top of this mountain in a matter of 3 hours or even less and return to the base in about an hour. Therefore, hiking mount Bisoke requires determination and physical fitness is necessary. You need to hire a porter to help carry your back pack for convenient hiking
Detailed Itinerary
You will be picked from your hotel in Kigali at 5am and set off to Volcanoes national park reaching at 7:30am for briefing at the Kinigi park headquarters with your packed lunch and enough drinking water. After your briefing, you will set off at 8:30am to the hiking head trail where you will meet your guides and porters. You are advised to have a 4×4 wheel drive as the trail seem rough and muddy. Begin your hike up to the crater lake with chance to spot other forest inhabitants including birds, mammal species like forest hogs and duikers. Later descend back and meet your guide and then set off back to Kigali reaching in the evening.
Packing for hiking
- A sweater as temperatures tend to drop up at the summit during the rainy season.
- Woolen gloves.
- Head gear.
- Light hiking shoe.
- Enough drinking water to keep hydrated.
- Walking stick
